Mobile devices such as Pocket PCs and cellular phones can be configured to access information stored on Exchange servers. Generally, there are two ways to connect: through Exchange Server ActiveSync or the Blackberry Enterprise Server.
Exchange Server ActiveSync, via a Windows Mobile device, offers the richest mobile access experience for no additional charge. With Exchange Server ActiveSync you can wirelessly receive "push" email and synchronize all email, calendar, contact, note, and task information directly with the Exchange system. Wireless access to the campus Exchange Global Access List (GAL) is also available.
When configuring your mobile device to connect to the Exchange Service, you should use "exchange.cites.uiuc.edu" as the server name and make sure the checkbox for using SSL is marked.
For Exchange subscribers with Blackberry devices, Exchange Services offers the Blackberry Enterprise Service (BES) for Exchange.
For a one-time, client-license fee of $60, Exchange subscribers with Blackberry devices have access to a seamlessly integrated, wireless extension of their Exchange accounts, with benefits including:
BES Features
- No need for Desktop Redirector
- Email is relayed directly between Blackberry devices and the Exchange Server
- Continuous Connectivity
